Scope
In recent years, citizen participation in elections in Africa has seen both progress and difficulties. According to data from the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA), voter turnout in African countries varies considerably, ranging from 30% to 90% in some cases. However, on average, voter turnout in Africa is relatively low compared to other regions, with an estimated average of around 55%.

This indicates that a large proportion of the African population is not engaged in the electoral process. In addition, voter apathy, political disillusionment and lack of confidence in the electoral system remain persistent problems that hinder citizen participation. To address these challenges, it is essential to explore effective strategies and initiatives aimed at increasing citizen participation and building confidence in the electoral process.
